Penultimate Pens: Pens And Other Stationery In The Guinness World Records

At Promo Parrot we provide an extensive range of stationary including pens and pencils. Due to this we are extremely interested in stationery based world records. Here is a selection of our favourites.

The world’s largest collection of ballpoint pens:

German Citizen Angelika Unverhau, collected over 220 000 individual ballpoint pens from over 146 countries worldwide. She began collecting unusual pens in her early childhood. However in 1990 she made the decision to take her collection seriously. After which she established a international club for ballpoint pen collectors to meet twice a year in order to discuss and trade ballpoint pens.

The world’s largest ballpoint pen:

The largest ballpoint pen the world has ever seen was constructed in India by Acharya Makunuri Srinivasa on March 10^th 2011. The pen itself measures a colossal 5.5 metres or 18 ft 0.53 inches, and weighs 37.32 KG or 82.08 lb 1.24 oz in imperial weight. The pen, which is engraved with scenes from Indian mythology, was presented for measurement in Hyderabad on April 24 2011.

The world’s largest collection of pencils:

Uruguay national Emilio Arenas began collecting black pencils at a young age back in 1956. By August 2011 he had amassed such an enormous collection that his friends suggested contacting the Guinness World Records. Upon hearing the news members of the Guinness team were sent to count and collate the collection. After several hours of intense pencil counting on 3^rd August 2011 Emilio’s collection was found to contain 14,552 individual black pencils from over 60 different countries.

The world’s best selling pen:

On the first of September 2006 pen manufacturer Bic was crowned as the manufacturer of the world’s best selling pen. In September 2006 the company celebrated selling the 100 billionth of the Bic Crystal series. Bic launched the series onto the global market in 1950. Since then the company has gone on to sell on average 57 a second. Statistically the total number of pens sold is enough to fill the Arch de triumph over twenty three times.

The world’s longest pencil:

Staedlter Mars GMBH & Co unveiled the world largest pencil on 15^th September 2011 to the crowds who had gathered in Nurnberg, Germany for the occasion. The colossal pencil measured in at 225.21m or 738ft 10 inches. Prior to the presentation the pencil had been sharpened at the end. This allowed a representative from Staedlter to write a few words on a piece of paper in front of the notary. In order to prove it was not merely an incredibly large painted tree.
