Back To the Future 2 – Products From The Future!
Back To The Future 2 – Self Lacing Nike’s
I first saw Back To The Future 2 when I was five, it was a futuristic vision of small town America which brought together some interesting ideas of future technology. Everyone remembers the self lacing “Nikies” with the light logo; the coolest shoe in any movie I’ve ever seen!! Nike actually recreated these shoes, calling them the “Nike MAG”, with the light included, but they never mastered the self lacing system. 1500 limited edition promotional “Nike MAG’s” were produced and auctioned off on ebay, with all proceeds being donated to the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease. Want a pair of these? Well the opening bid for a pair was $10,000….some went for $90,000!
Back To The Future 2 – Mattel Hover Board
Who can forget the hover boards! I still want one!!! Man has created the Large Hadron Particle Collider, with some parts operating at 1.9 Kelvin, (−271.25 °C, absolute zero is -273.15 °C), smashing particles together at the speed of light, but we can’t create a hover board? Come on scientists! Get your priorities right!! I love the pink version branded with Mattel, they definitely saw an advertising opportunity there!
Back To The Future 2 – Jaws 3D
Some things in the Back To The Future 2 are available now, the swooping 3D holographic Jaws, charging and taking a bite out of Marty McFly is one of my favorite scenes. This technology is here; Tupac Shakur recently appeared at a Snoop Dogg gig and performed a duo live in concert, all via the power of 3D holograms. It’s really amazing stuff to see and obviously opens the door for a lot of creative opportunities, or performances from other diseased artists, (when 3D Jimi Hendrix comes back, let me know!)
Back To The Future 2 – Conclusion
There’s a whole bunch of other products from Back to the Future 2 which I could list; the de-hydrated pizza hut pizza, the Black and Decker Hydrator, wireless video games, and there is actually a scene where an old man is using a tablet! All of these products and their branding stick’s in my memory even after 20 years because they were creative and innovative. Promotional products need to be just that to provide the best advertising opportunities and produce maximum exposure within an audience. Keep this in mind when selecting items for your next promotional campaign.
When we have promotional hover boards, I’ll let you know ;0)
